DESCRIPTION:
The 1974 Volvo is six cars in one. All Volvos.
At Volvo we think it takes more than impressive features to make an impressive car.
It takes years of making those features work together.
So when we designed the 1974 Volvo,
we
started with a unitized body
construction developed thirty years ago for our Volvo 444, because it’s still one of the strongest we know of.
We use disc brakes for their stubborn resistance to fading. As well as an orthopedically-engineered seat built to adjust for optimum back support. Both the legacy of the Volvo 122.
Years ago we introduced fuel
injection in our sports car to give its engine
the most efficient mixture of fuel and air.
And equipped our luxury sedan with radial tires to enhance its road-holding capabilities. You'll find fuel injection and radial tires on this year’s 144.
And recent government safety requirements aren’t recent to us. Our Volvo 544, for example, was the first mass-produced car to come with
three-point seat belts as standard
equipment.
Later we created the Volvo
Experimental Safety Vehicle: an entire car devoted to safety.
With features like stronger bumpers and
steel anti-intrusion bars in the doors.
But
safety
is
more
than
just
experimental at Volvo.
For 1974 we’ve added five important safety features that
no other Volvo has ever had: A warning light that can help protect
you from accidents caused by burned out headlights or taillights.
A re-positioned fuel tank designed to be less vulnerable in an accident.
As well as better visibility, more collision protection and an even stronger body. After all, we wouldn't want a tradition like ours to stand in the way of progress.
